A coworker of mine is in the process of moving to a bigger house. He just had his third child. The long nights and constant care are draining enough, but add to that having a house built and packing up the old one. The man is stretched to the limit. He is not enjoying this priceless time with his son, he is spending it dealing with builders, realtors, bankers, and STUFF. You see, he isn't moving because he needs more room for his family, he is moving because he needs more room for his stuff. He currently has a basement, a garage, and a storage unit full of STUFF. So he concluded that he needed a bigger house.
He and his wife make good money, and live in a comfortable home that is very affordable for them. Now they are doubling their mortgage and cashing in all of their savings, retirement accounts, etc. to buy this new home. They were thisclose to getting out of the paycheck to paycheck cycle and getting some financial freedom. Now, because of STUFF, they are digging a tremendous hole, and leaving themselves no room for error.
It hurts me to see this. You see, 3 years ago, this was me. I wanted more. More things, more space, more, more, more. I have fought my own mind and transformed my thinking. I realize my mistakes and am never making them again. The purpose of this blog is so you won't either.
